Resinoid from cape gooseberry fruit <i>(Physalis peruviana</i> L.) - volatile composition and application as an active ingredient in a cosmetic formulation

Cape gooseberry ( Physalis peruviana L.), an exotic fruit gaining popularity in Bulgaria, has been recognized as a highly functional food, but also the potential to be resource for fragrance and cosmetic industries. The main objective of this study was assess resinoid (a type traditional aromatic products) obtained from locally-produced (variety “Plovdiv”) use cosmetics, by revealing its volatile composition characterizing properties author-developed resinoid- enriched cream. (yield 58.78% DW) dark-orange viscous mass, with fruity, caramel notes smoke accords odor. GC-MS analysis identified 44 volatiles (98.69%), representing carbohydrates, alcohols, acids, along minor miscellaneous compounds. A cream (O/W emulsion) developed, incorporating (1.00%) active ingredient, compared control sample. Resinoid inclusion affected positively sensory physico-chemical (color, odor, pH, stability). studied emulsions had rheological behavior pseudoplastic non-Newtonian fluids, presence reduced viscosity. It could concluded that reasonable ingredient preparations; course, further research is needed complex effects.
